Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw has lamented his side's missed opportunities against Newcastle United at Old Trafford in their 0-0 draw.

Louis van Gaal’s men only managed to get a point against the Magpies in a game which they dominated the ball and created innumerable opportunities to breach Tim Krul’s goal.

The Red Devils started the game on the front foot and it needed some desperate last ditch defending from Fabricio Coloccini and company to keep the home side at bay.

While Steve McClaren’s men grew into the game and did create a few problems for an impressive Manchester United defence, the home side finished the game as they started, but they just couldn’t find the back of the net.

Shaw admits that it not a point gained, but two points dropped and feels that they should have taken their chances to bury the away side at Old Trafford.

"We all think its two points dropped, especially with the chances we created", the full-back told MUTV.

"The manager said at half-time it was the best opening 20-30 minutes he's seen from us", added Shaw.

"We needed to finish our chances."

Manchester United will travel to Belgium to take on Club Brugge in the second leg of their Champions League playoff round tie on Wednesday and Shaw feels it will be a good opportunity for them to bounce back from a disappointing result in the league.

"We've got a game just around the corner which can only be good for us to get back up and win it."
