Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman is thinking about going under the knife again to repair his damaged knee.

The Dutchman has been struggling with keen problems since last year and missed last summer’s World Cup after undergoing surgery to repair his injured anterior cruciate ligament.

He returned to action during the latter part of last year but hurt his cartilage again in January, which ruled him out for the rest of the season.

However, his knee problems have resurfaced ahead of the new Serie A season as it has been claimed that he felt uncomfortable during Roma’s pre-season tour of Australia.

Following conversations with specialists, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the midfielder has again been advised to undergo surgery to fix the problem.

While Strootman is yet to make a decision, it has been suggested going under the knife again is the only option left in front of him to solve his regular knee problems.

The 25-year-old could be ruled out for the whole season if he decides to undergo another knee surgery.

Strootman was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United but following repeated knee problems, the trail has gone cold in recent months and Louis van Gaal has signed players such as Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger to strengthen the team.
