Napoli are trying to push Jonathan de Guzman to Sunderland and the player is ready to make the move, despite not being 100 per cent convinced by Dick Advocaat's project at the Stadium of Light.

De Guzman has given a yes in principle to moving to Sunderland after speaking to Advocaat, but is still dragging his heels on completing a deal and has yet to definitively commit to the switch by putting pen to paper.

According to Sky Italia, Napoli are trying to hurry De Guzman along to the exit door and his switch is expected to go through soon.

De Guzman has spoken with Advocaat, who is desperate to add him to his ranks at Sunderland, but the midfielder is not completely convinced by the move.

The former Swansea City midfielder is still expected to complete a move to Sunderland, but every day in which he does not put pen to paper with the Black Cats is a day in which the deal can still be hijacked.

De Guzman only joined Napoli last summer from Spanish outfit Villarreal.

He would arrive at Sunderland armed with Premier League experience due to two seasons spent with Welsh giants Swansea City.

However, De Guzman will be under no illusions that he will be walking into a side which have not made the brightest of starts to the new Premier League campaign.
