Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao is poised to join French Ligue 1 club Monaco on a loan deal, according to Madrid-based daily AS.

Coentrao has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu and has been reported to be a target for Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan and Monaco.

And the principality outfit are close to landing the left-back on a season-long loan. Real Madrid and Monaco officials are finalising the deal and an official announcement is expected soon.

Coentrao has chosen Monaco ahead of Inter Milan, despite their Champions League exit at the playoff stage, as the offer made by Leonardo Jardim’s side proved more attractive to him.

The Portugal international has been at the Spanish capital outfit since the summer of 2011, but has mostly played second fiddle to Marcelo at the club. His tenure at the Bernabeu has also been marred by numerous injuries.
