Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the timing of the closure of the summer transfer window next week could hand English clubs an advantage.

While in England the transfer window closes earlier than usual, at 6pm on Tuesday, in Europe it shuts the day before, on Monday.

And for Wenger, that means if Arsenal make late moves to sign any players, they will not have to battle off interest from any European clubs, something which is true for any English sides in the market on the final day.

Asked about the implications of the window closing a day earlier in Europe, Wenger told a press conference this morning: "The implication is that on the last day we will be the only ones in the market and not face any competition from the others."

Wenger knows that the window closure means English clubs will not be able to sell to European clubs on Tuesday, but he does not view it as a problem as Arsenal are hoping to keep hold of all their squad.

"That is true [that we can’t sell into Europe]", he said.

"But if you ask me if I will bring somebody in then that is not so much of a handicap because we do not want somebody out anyway."

Arsenal have been linked with moves for a defensive midfielder and a striker before the transfer window slams shut until January.
