Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has expressed his delight at seeing club skipper Wayne Rooney find the back of the net for the first time this season in their Champions League playoff round second leg tie against Club Brugge.

The Spanish Under-23 international combined with Rooney to beat the Belgian outfit 4-0 at their home yesterday, thus winning the tie 7-1 on aggregate.

Praising Rooney, who scored a hat-trick during the match, the former Athletic Bilbao player added that things are always easy for the Red Devils when their skipper scores.

And that was what happened yesterday, according to Herrera, as they outclassed their opponents to return to the Champions League after a year-long absence.

Herrera also praised the way Rooney showed his eagerness to combine with his team-mates throughout the course of an entire match, not thinking about himself.

“Wayne is our captain, our leader, and we are happy for him”, Herrera told his club's official website.

“When he scores, things are always easier but he is also a team player.

"He is always helping the team and not thinking only about himself.”

Manchester United have been placed in Group B at the Champions League stage with PSV Eindhoven, Wolfsburg and CSKA Moscow being the other three teams drawn along with them.
