Roma director general Mauro Baldissoni has indicated that Kevin Strootman’s injury is still being monitored.

The Dutch midfielder's continued struggles with knee injuries have reached a new low after it emerged that he might to have to undergo fresh surgery which could rule him out for the rest of the season.

Strootman’s troubles started with a cruciate ligament injury last year which forced him to miss the World Cup last summer and after returning to action he again hurt his cartilage in January, which sidelined him for the rest of the season.

And there is a suggestion that the midfielder’s horror run with injuries could continue after he felt discomfort in his left knee during Roma’s pre-season tour earlier this summer.

However, Baldissoni indicated that no decision on surgery has yet been taken, but stressed that every measure will be taken to ensure that the midfielder returns to the field in optimum physical condition.

On being asked whether Strootman will undergo one more operation, the Roma director general told Tuttosport: “A I told you we are evaluating the solutions that can allow Kevin to return to the field in the best possible condition.

“An announcement will be made after we identify a solution but the issue is very delicate and since I am not a doctor, I have nothing to add.”

Manchester United, who were keen to sign the midfielder, have cooled their interest in the wake of his persistent injury troubles and have signed other players to fulfil their requirements.
