West Ham are exploring signing Alessandro Matri from AC Milan after the player was made available following the arrival of Mario Balotelli.

Matri is surplus to requirements at the San Siro and has been linked with several clubs in recent weeks as he considers interest in his services.




The latest club keen, according to Sky Italia, are West Ham, who are themselves searching frantically for another striker.

The Hammers have expressed an interest in Matri and have had contact with AC Milan.
 

 

The former Juventus striker is open to a switch to Upton Park, but West Ham have yet to firm up their interest to take it to the next level.

Matri joined AC Milan from Juventus in 2013, but struggled to nail down a regular spot and was loaned to Fiorentina the following year, while he also spent time on loan at Genoa.

For the second half of last season the Italian returned to Juventus on loan and helped the club to success in the Coppa Italia.

Matri has won seven caps at international level with Italy.
