Celtic have slapped in a bid of around £500,000 for Inverness midfielder Ryan Christie, according to BBC Radio Scotland.

Bhoys boss Ronny Deila wants to take the 20-year-old to Celtic Park and the Scottish champions are willing to loan Christie back to Inverness for the season if he signs.

Christie only has a year left on his Inverness contract, but the club retain the option to extend it by a further year.

A Scotland Under-21 international, Christie has impressed Celtic, who now want to ensure he lands at Celtic Park, even if they have to wait until next year to welcome him into their ranks.

Celtic could find favour with a purchase and then loan back agreement with Inverness, with the club's manager John Hughes not keen on losing Christie so close to the closure of the transfer window.

Hughes explained to BBC Radio Scotland: "We have to do what's right for Inverness.

"We are a selling club, no doubt about that, and we would never step in anybody's way. It would be the same with Ryan Christie.

"But, right at this moment in time, he's under contract to Inverness and long may that continue.

"The ideal scenario would be, if he ever did move, we would try to keep him here just to buy ourselves some time and keep that quality at the club."

It remains to be seen how Inverness respond to Celtic's offer for starlet Christie with the clock ticking in the transfer window.
