Rangers custodian Wes Foderingham has revealed that Manchester United's David de Gea is his favourite goalkeeper and has lauded the Spaniard's talents.

Foderingham, who joined Scottish giants Rangers earlier this summer and has already established himself as the club's number 1, believes De Gea has everything a modern day goalkeeper needs.

He admits that Republic of Ireland stalwart Shay Given was his idol growing up, but in the modern game there is no one better than De Gea for the Rangers shot-stopper.

"Shay Given was my hero growing up, but I'll say my favourite goalkeeper is probably David de Gea", he told Rangers TV.

"I think he epitomises the modern day goalkeeper", Foderingham continued.

"He is good with his feet, very agile and makes good saves as well."

De Gea's future at Manchester United is uncertain at present as he has refused to sign a new contract with the club, despite being offered a lucrative extension by the Red Devils.

The goalkeeper, who only has a year remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford, is wanted by Real Madrid and is keen to head to the Bernabeu before the transfer window slams shut.
