Rangers boss Mark Warburton admits he would love to sign Alex Pritchard on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, but feels the midfielder is now ready for Premier League football.

Warburton had Pritchard at Brentford in the Championship last season and has been mooted to be keen to take him to Ibrox.

The English tactician has made no bones about the fact he would love to be able to call upon Pritchard at Rangers, but he expects the 22-year-old to push to break through into Mauricio Pochettino's team at White Hart Lane.

Asked about loaning Pritchard for Rangers this summer, Warburton told a press conference: "I would love to take Alex Pritchard on loan.

"But I think Alex Pritchard will be playing at a very high level", he added.

And Warburton praised Spurs' use of the loan market to develop Pritchard, feeling as a result he is now prepared to play in the English top flight.

"Alex Pritchard is an example of Spurs using the loan system really well, to develop their young talents; going to Swindon and playing 44 games in League One, going to Brentford playing 44 games in the Championship, being in the team of the year, going with England to the European Under-21 Championship", the former Brentford boss explained.

"Now he's ready for Premier League football."

Warburton recently signed defender Dominic Ball and forward Nathan Oduwa on loan from Tottenham and is a self-confessed Spurs fan.
