Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is satisfied with his side's Champions League group stage draw and has already made plans for his chief opposition scout Marcel Bout to watch their opponents in action.

The Red Devils have been drawn in a group with PSV Eindhoven, CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg, as they bid to plot a course through to the last 16.

Van Gaal feels the draw could have been kinder to Manchester United, but he also believes it could have thrown up a trickier group – and so the Dutchman is not keen to complain.

And planning has already started for the club's European campaign.

"It could be worse but it could be better also", Van Gaal told a press conference this afternoon, reacting to the group stage draw.

"I am not so interested, we have to look now to the clubs because these days shape is more important than it was in the past.

"Marcel is already going to the matches of Wolfsburg and also PSV. PSV have to play Feyenoord so that’s a big match in Holland – we have to analyse now", the Dutchman added.

Manchester United start their group stage campaign by travelling to Van Gaal's native Netherlands to play PSV Eindhoven, while their second match sees them welcome Wolfsburg to Old Trafford at the end of September.

Van Gaal has won the Champions League once as a manager, guiding Ajax to success in the competition.
