Watford are looking to hijack Lazar Markovic's impending loan move from Liverpool to Fenerbahce.

The newly promoted Premier League club have been alerted to Markovic's availability this summer after Liverpool held talks with Fenerbahce over a loan move.

Markovic is now just one step away from joining the Yellow Canaries on loan for the season and is expected in Turkey for his medical at the weekend.

But according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Watford are looking at hijacking the deal and grabbing Markovic from under Fenerbahce's noses.

However, the English club's sporting director Nicola Salerno knows doing so will be tough as Fenerbahce are all but done with their deal for Markovic.

Nevertheless, Watford's late interest may give Liverpool pause for thought as sending the Serbian to the Hornets would mean he gains vital Premier League experience.

Liverpool splashed out £20m to sign Markovic from Portuguese giants Benfica last summer, but he struggled to secure regular first team minutes at Anfield.
