Lucas Leiva is trying to persuade Liverpool to allow him to join Besiktas this summer, it has been claimed in Turkey.

The Brazilian defensive midfielder had been all set to join the Black Eagles on loan from Liverpool, but following his assured performance for the Reds in a 0-0 draw away at Arsenal on Monday evening, boss Brendan Rodgers vetoed the move.

According to Turkish outlet Futbol Arena, Lucas is still keen to move to Besiktas before the transfer window closes and is trying to change Liverpool's mind.

The Brazilian is still on Besiktas' agenda, but the Turkish side know any deal depends on Liverpool having a change of heart.

It appears mentally Lucas had already signed off on his move to Istanbul and has been left surprised at Rodgers' U-turn.

It is also unclear how much regular first team football Lucas will play at Anfield this season as Rodgers reinforced his side heavily over the summer transfer window.

Skipper Jordan Henderson missed Monday night's game away at Arsenal and is expected to slot back into the Liverpool starting eleven when fit.
