Celtic manager Ronny Deila feels today's 3-1 win over St Johnstone at Paradise was essential to get back on track following his side's elimination from the Champions League.

St Johnstone stunned Celtic by taking the lead in the 11th minute when Dedryck Boyata put the ball into the back of his own net.

But Celtic needed only seven minute to draw level as Leigh Griffiths got on the end of good work from Kris Commons to fire the home side level.

Celtic then went ahead on the stroke of half time through Tom Rogic.

A third then arrived courtesy of Charlie Mulgrew in the 67th minute, the substitute heading home from a Commons cross to kill off St Johnstone.

Celtic claimed all three Scottish Premiership points and Deila was delighted, telling a press conference after the game: "It was an important game to get back on track winning games. I’m proud of the team today.

"It was a hard start, but we showed character and confidence in the first half.

"We went out and attacked them, got 3-1 and I’m proud of the performance today and we showed some good football", Deila added.

Scott Brown was forced off in the 59th minute, being replaced by Mulgrew, but Deila eased injury fears around the skipper.

"I think everyone can be calm. I think he’ll be ready for the games for Scotland against Georgia and Germany."
