Valencia have officially confirmed the signing of defender Aymen Abdennour from Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.

Abdennour, who saw his stock sky-rocket through a series of assured displays for Monaco during last season's Champions League, has been linked with a whole host of clubs throughout the summer, including AC Milan, Liverpool, Juventus and West Ham.

But the Tunisia international will be plying his trade at the Mestalla with Valencia after signing a five-year contract to keep him at the Spanish giants until 2020.

Abdennour is delighted with the switch and told his new club's official site: "I chose Valencia CF out of all the offers I received, because it is a big club in Spain and Europe. I had no doubts.

"I am happy to be here and to be part of an ambitious and serious project, and I would like to thank the technical staff, Lay Hoon and Peter Lim. I will give my all to have a good season with my new team-mates", he added.

Abdennour had also been linked with Valencia's Spanish rivals Barcelona, but the Catalan club opted not to make a move to sign the 26-year-old; he would have only been able to play in 2016 due to their transfer ban.

The defender made 26 appearances for Monaco last season and counts Werder Bremen and Toulouse amongst his former clubs in Europe.
