Sheffield Wednesday appear to be closing in on Watford forward Fernando Forestieri after he was allegedly snapped at Hillsborough for today's Championship clash against Middlesbrough.

Leeds United agreed a fee with Watford for Forestieri recently, but the Argentina-born forward was not keen on a move to Elland Road.

As such, Leeds owner Massimo Cellino announced yesterday that the Whites have ended their interest in signing the player.

Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with moving to sign Forestieri and it appears they may well be close to getting a deal over the line.

A Sheffield Wednesday fan snapped a photograph of Forestieri heading into Hillsborough before today's match and published it via his Twitter account.

Snapping up the Italian would be a big coup for the Owls, especially as Yorkshire rivals Leeds were unable to convince the player to head to Elland Road.

However, a move from Watford would mean Forestieri dropping back into the Championship from the Premier League, after he helped the Hornets win promotion last term.

The forward though would likely be a regular fixture at Sheffield Wednesday, while at Watford he has struggled to command a regular spot so far this term.
