Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has bemoaned defensive errors in his side's 3-0 home defeat to West Ham, especially as he feels the visitors would have been happy with a 0-0 draw given how they set up.

Liverpool had no sooner started when they were behind in the second minute of the game when a Martin Skrtel error allowed Aaron Cresswell to pick out Manuel Lazini, who made no mistake from close range.

The Reds tried to rally, but were caught out again when Dejan Lovren gave away possession, which allowed Lazini to cross in the 28th minute. The cross was cleared, but only to Mark Noble, who made it 2-0.

The home side came out in the second half determined to get back into the game, but within seven minute of the restart had Philippe Coutinho sent off for a second yellow card, reducing them to ten men.

The teams were levelled when Noble received his marching orders in the 78th minute, and Liverpool tried to take advantage, but could not prevent West Ham scoring a third, Diafra Sakho hitting the back of the net at the death.

The Reds had lost 3-0 and Rodgers was disappointed to lose, especially as he feels West Ham would have been pleased with a point.

"I think the first goal set us back", Rodgers told LFC TV.

"We started the game well, but gave away a quick goal.

"They are obviously a team that were coming to defend and would have been happy with a 0-0.

"So to then give away the goal was disappointing for us. Then to go to 2-0 against a team ready to defend and with that determination made it difficult for us.

"Importantly for us, where we've been defensively good, we conceded four goals."

But Rodgers wants a sense of perspective applying to the result, adding: "We've had seven points out of 12 and if you see the league, four teams our of seven have lost at home, so it shows you the difficult teams will have now."
