Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted his side are still active in the transfer window and are on the lookout for an "exceptional player".

The Gunners have delivered a transfer coup at the death of the transfer window before, notably bagging Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in 2013 – and they are once again hunting for a world-class signing before the summer transfer period ends.

Wenger's men played out a slender 1-0 win away at Newcastle United yesterday and have been lacklustre so far this term, adding to calls for the Frenchman to enter the market.

So far Arsenal have signed only Petr Cech from Chelsea, but that could change, Wenger admits.

"We are open and we are in the transfer market", Wenger said via his club's site.

"If we find an exceptional player in any sector, we will do it.

"At the moment I don’t know if something will happen or not", the Arsenal manager added.

Arsenal are now next in action following the international break when Stoke City provide the opposition at the Emirates Stadium.

Then they move onto Champions League duty with a trip to Croatia to play Dinamo Zagreb.
