Guly do Prado, the former Southampton striker, believes that Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini will flourish back in Serie A and book a return to the Italy squad as a result.

Do Prado played alongside the 30-year-old former Juventus winger at Cesena and has a high opinion of his talents.

Giaccherini is leaving Sunderland to join Serie A side Bologna on a season-long loan deal after falling out of favour with Dick Advocaat at the Stadium of Light.

Do Prado thinks the man who has 21 Italy caps to his name will turn on the style with Bologna and soon find himself in Antonio Conte's Azzurri squad as a result.

He told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato: "I remember that he was good [at Cesena].

"I met him in the Premier League recently. I think he is happy to be back in Italy and he will get back into the national team", the 33-year-old added.

Do Prado left Cesena to join Southampton, initially on loan, in 2011, before sealing a permanent switch to St Mary's.

He left Southampton in 2014 and enjoyed a brief spell playing in the MLS with Chicago Fire.
