Italian side Genoa are interested in signing West Ham striker Mauro Zarate before the transfer window slams shut.

The Rossoblu rate the Argentine and want to add him to their ranks ahead of Monday's deadline for Italian sides.

Zarate featured in West Ham's first two Premier League games of the season and Hammers boss Slaven Bilic may not be keen to allow the striker to leave.

But Genoa want to take the former Lazio man back to Serie A, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

In Italy, Zarate scored 34 goals for Lazio in all competitions, which he also turned out for Inter.

Genoa face a race against the clock to sign Zarate though and any deal is likely to be dependent on whether West Ham can replace him, especially as they are already chasing another striker.

Zarate is under contract with the Hammers until the summer of 2017.
