Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller admits that he has heard speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United this summer, but cannot say if the Red Devils have a secret plan to try to buy him.

Van Gaal was a firm fan of Muller and during his time as Bayern Munich coach coined the phrase "Muller always plays" in reference to his team selection.

The Dutchman has been linked with offering big money to sign Muller from the Bavarians this summer, though Bayern Munich have continued to insist that the Germany international will not leave.

And Muller, who has not been able to avoid the speculation, insists his old coach has not been in touch.

"There have been many rumours about my situation this summer", he was quoted as saying at a press conference by Tipsbladet after a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen yesterday.

"I can, however, make it clear right away that Louis van Gaal has not called me this summer.

"If there are plans for a potential transfer, it is certainly not something I know about. I haven't heard anything."

It remains to be seen if Manchester United will make a late play to take Muller to Old Trafford before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday evening.

Following the departures of Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie, Manchester United boss Van Gaal is short of striking options.
