Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Manchester United simply must sign a striker before the end of the transfer window, while they must also resolve their goalkeeping situation.

A poor performance from Sergio Romero between the sticks contributed towards Manchester United 2-1 defeat away at Swansea City today, as the situation involving David de Gea drags on.

Neville believes that in goal and up front are the two positions the Red Devils must address before the transfer window closes on Tuesday evening, especially as if De Gea leaves for Real Madrid, Romero will be their first choice.

The former right-back said on Sky Sports: "Watching them, they need players. They need to sort the goalkeeper situation out, that is a big problem if De Gea leaves and they don't get a replacement in.

"Centre forward, goalkeeper, both ends of the pitch…if [Javier] Hernandez leaves you've got one striker in Wayne Rooney", he continued.

"From Manchester United's point of view, they have to resolve the centre forward and goalkeeper in the next two days.

"They lack pace in the front six."

Neville is sure that manager Louis van Gaal does not rate striker Javier Hernandez, who was left on the bench throughout the defeat to Swansea this afternoon, which only adds to the importance of signing another striker before Tuesday evening.

And the former Red Devils pointed out that Manchester United have long had four strikers to choose from.

"Javier Hernandez, he's not fancied him from day one.

"Manchester United have had four centre forwards for the last 20 years and all of a sudden it's been decimated.

"I'll be stunned if there isn't a striker brought in in the next 48 hours."
