Real Madrid are plotting a last minute move for Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno, but feel the Reds may ask for an excessive fee for the former Sevilla man.

Los Blancos have allowed Portugal international Fabio Coentrao to move to Monaco, which has left them short of cover at left-back.

According to Eurosport, cited by Spanish daily AS, Real Madrid are looking towards Anfield for their solution, with Moreno in their sights.

Coach Rafael Benitez is a fan of Moreno, but it remains to be seen whether so late in the window Liverpool will be willing to consent to his departure, while Real Madrid fear the English side could also demand a sky-high sum.

Moreno has lost his place in the starting eleven at Liverpool to young defender Joe Gomez and started on the bench in his side's 3-0 home defeat to West Ham yesterday.

The 23-year-old is likely to jump at the chance to move to Real Madrid, if Liverpool accept an offer for his services.

Moreno joined the Merseyside giants last summer for a fee of around £12m from Sevilla.

He featured regularly in a promising debut campaign, often being deployed further forward than his natural left-back position.
