Louis van Gaal feels his side were lacking a little luck against Swansea City today, after he saw his team slip to a 2-1 defeat at the Liberty Stadium.

Manchester United struggled to cause Swansea problems in the opening 45 minutes as the Welsh side kept Van Gaal's men at arm's length and both teams went in level at 0-0 at the break.

But Manchester United pulled ahead within three minutes of the restart when Juan Mata got on the end of a Luke Shaw cross which Wayne Rooney had missed, and guided his shot into the roof of the net.

Swansea though drew level in the 60th minute when Gylfi Sigurdsson, on a quick counter-attack, picked out Andre Ayew, who powered a header past Sergio Romero.

It was then 2-1 five minutes later when Ayew turned provider and picked out Bafetimbi Gomis with a superb pass.

The striker's shot lacked power, but still had enough to beat Romero in the Manchester United goal.

Manchester United brought on Michael Carrick and Ashley Young, then later throwing on Marouane Fellaini, but they could not find a second goal and slipped to defeat.

Van Gaal was left to reflect on the defeat and along with identifying Swansea changing their shape, he also pointed to a lack of luck.

He told Sky Sports after the match: "The opponent changed their shape and we could not cope, that is not good.

"We lost in that five minutes and it is a pity because we controlled the game.

"You have to be compact, we were probably too dominant to have the sense to do that.

"We could have scored much more goals, that is not the problem. You need a little bit of luck", the Dutchman added.
