Swansea City captain Ashley Williams admits that Manchester United have improved as a side, after the Swans beat the Red Devils 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium today.

Manchester United struggled to land a blow on Swansea in the opening 45 minutes as the Welsh side coped well with Louis van Gaal's men, the two teams heading in at 0-0 at half time.

But the Red Devils needed just three minutes after the restart to take the lead, with Juan Mata getting on the end of a Luke Shaw cross to guide the ball into the back of the net.

Swansea however would not lie down and on the hour mark they drew level through Andre Ayew, who connected with a Gylfi Sigurdsson cross to bullet a header past Sergio Romero.

Then Swansea were ahead, Bafetimbi Gomis making it 2-1 in the 65th minute.

The striker got on the end of a superb Ayew pass to fire a shot in which, although not packed with power, still had enough to beat Romero.

Manchester United brought Michael Carrick and Ashley Young on in the 70th minute mark, while Marouane Fellaini was then introduced, but to no avail as they went down to defeat.

For Williams, beating Manchester United this season was more difficult than last term and he told Sky Sports after the match: "I think so [it was tougher than last season.]

"I think they've improved a lot from last season. It was a very difficult game.

"I don't think we played as well as we can in the first half, but I think that was down to them.

"Any time you can beat one of the top teams shows our improvement. We keep working every day and every week.

"We want to be a consistently good side."
