Celtic are making progress in their bid to sign defender Jozo Simunovic from Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb, it has been claimed.

Simunovic is wanted at Celtic Park by Bhoys boss Ronny Deila, who appears to see the 21-year-old as the perfect replacement for Virgil van Dijk, tipped to join Premier League side Southampton.

According to BBC Scotland, Celtic have managed to thrash out a fee with Dinamo Zagreb for the centre-back, with the deal now having moved on to the discussion of personal terms.

Celtic are oozing confidence on the deal, having already submitted a work permit for Simunovic.

The 21-year-old is highly rated and is a Croatia Under-21 international.

Leaving Dinamo Zagreb would mean turning down the chance to play Champions League group stage football for Simunovic this season, as Celtic have not qualified.

The Bhoys were eliminated in the playoff round of the competition and as such have only Europa League football on the agenda this term.
