Serie A pair Atalanta and Bologna have given up on trying to sign Giuseppe Bellusci from Leeds United this summer.

The duo had been keen on tempting Bellusci back to his homeland, but with so little time left for Leeds to sign a replacement, the Whites have blocked the departure of the centre-back.

As such, according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, the pair have conceded defeat in their efforts to sign Bellusci.

The Italian, who is a controversial figure at Elland Road due to a series of spats with the club's fans, will now stay put at the Championship club.

Bellusci joined Leeds last season from Catania, initially on loan, but the English club quickly activated a purchase option and signed the centre-back permanently.
