Liverpool forward Fabio Borini is heading to Sunderland for a medical and to discuss a four-year contract, according to Press Association Sport.

The Black Cats have had a bid of £7m accepted by Liverpool, who are keen to offload the Italian forward before the transfer window slams shut tomorrow evening.

Borini spent the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Sunderland, but then rejected the chance to join the club on a permanent basis last summer.

Now though he could be set to finally link up with the Black Cats, if he can agree personal terms and then chooses to put pen to paper.

Complications could yet creep into the deal though as a number of Italian clubs have been linked with Borini throughout the summer.
