Manchester United have raised their offer for forward Anthony Martial, but Monaco have rejected their overtures.

Louis van Gaal’s men made a move for the 19-year-old French starlet yesterday and offered around €50m for the player, but the bid was presumably rejected by the Ligue 1 outfit.

However, the Red Devils refused to go away and according to French broadcaster Canal+, they raised their offer for the forward to around €55m, but Monaco stood firm.

It has been suggested that Monaco knocked back their second offer and are keen to hold on to the player.

There is also speculation that the player himself is ready to move to Old Trafford and has agreed personal terms with Manchester United, but the club are finding it difficult to agree a fee with Monaco.

However, the Ligue 1 outfit have refused to rule out the possibility of Martial leaving the club on deadline day and it seems they are holding out for money.

Monaco vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, was quoted as saying by Le Parisien: “At Monaco, moreover in football, nothing is impossible.”

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the France Under-21 international but Manchester United are the ones who have taken an initiative to take the youngster to England this summer.

But with the transfer window closing today in France, Manchester United have very little time to take the deal over the line.
