Tottenham Hotspur have blocked Erik Lamela's loan move to French side Marseille in a dramatic turn of events.

A deal has been agreed between Marseille and Spurs for Lamela to head on loan to the Stade Velodrome for the season, while the Argentina winger is happy with the move.

But according to French radio station RMC, Spurs have put the move on hold while they secure a replacement.

Marseille are now fretting that with the clock ticking on the transfer window in France, which closes today, they may not be able to sign the former Roma man.

The Ligue 1 side are desperate to add Lamela to their ranks on loan for the remainder of the season, but now face the very real prospect of Spurs refusing to let the deal proceed.
