Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that they have signed striker Javier Hernandez from Manchester United, with the fee reported to be in the region of €12m.

The Mexican has put pen to paper to a three-year contract and will be with the German side until June 2018.

Hernandez fell out of favour at Old Trafford following the arrival of Louis van Gaal and was sent out on loan to Spanish side Real Madrid last summer.

At the Santiago Bernabeu he managed an overall 33 appearances, scoring nine goals and also provided his team-mates with nine assists.

The Madrid giants though refused to extend his stay or seek a permanent move, forcing him to return to Old Trafford this summer.

The 27-year-old once again failed to catch his manager's eye, being involved in a penalty miss during the Champions League playoff round tie against Club Brugge.

And now a deal for the striker has been reached and Hernandez has travelled to Germany to put finishing touches to the deal.

Hernandez will add to Bayer Leverkusen's attacking options for their Champions League campaign this season.
