Aston Villa have enquired with Liverpool about the availability of defender Tiago Ilori on transfer deadline day.

The 22-year-old joined the Reds from Sporting Lisbon in 2013 for a fee of around £7m, but has so far failed to secure first team football at Anfield.

He has spent loan spells at Bordeaux and Granada and has started the season with the Liverpool Under-21s. For the moment Brendan Rodgers is believed to have no plans to involve him in first team action in the near future.

Aston Villa are keen to take advantage of the situation and according to the BBC, they have contacted Liverpool regarding a move for the 22-year-old defender.

However, it is unclear whether the Midlands club want to sign him on loan or take him away from Anfield on a permanent deal today.

Ilori is unlikely to see much first team action under Rodgers this season and it remains to be seen whether he chooses to leave or is keen to fight his way back into the Liverpool manager’s plans.

Liverpool and Aston Villa have until 6pm today to reach an agreement over a deal for the Portuguese defender.

Ilori has a contract until 2018 with the Merseyside club.
