Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is delighted to see David de Gea's move to Real Madrid collapse, feeling it has left Manchester United with a player whose head is not in the right place, while also depriving them of transfer funds.

Manchester United agreed to sell De Gea to Real Madrid yesterday in a cash plus Keylor Navas deal. But both sides could not submit the relevant documents on time and the transfer collapsed at the last minute.

As such De Gea, who was desperate to join Real Madrid, is stuck at Manchester United to see out the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

For Carragher, a firm fan of Manchester United's fierce rivals Liverpool, the outcome is perfect.

The former defender wrote on Twitter: "I'm happy DDG is staying his head won't be right, he'll go for free next summer & Man Utd haven't got 20 mil to panic with today."

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United consider De Gea for first team duty after leaving him out of their side so far this season due to a lack of focus on the part of the goalkeeper.

Real Madrid meanwhile insist they did everything right involving the transfer, shifting the blame to Manchester United.
