Chelsea are on the verge of signing Jamaican international defender Michael Hector from Reading, according to the BBC.

The Premier League champions have reached an agreement over a fee with Reading and the Royals are set to receive around £4m from his sale.

The defender is expected to soon complete a medical with the Blues and sign a long-term contract with Chelsea later today.

However, the 23-year-old will not feature for Jose Mourinho’s team this season as it has been suggested that he is likely to be immediately loaned back to the Madejski Stadium for the rest of the campaign.

He has made 63 first team appearances for the Royals and also earned four caps Jamaica after making his debut for his country earlier this year.

Hector is set to become the second defensive signing for Chelsea on deadline day after they secured a deal for Papy Djilobodji from FC Nantes.
