Everton are close to reaching an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Aaron Lennon on a permanent deal, according to ITV.

The 28-year-old winger joined the Toffees on loan in the winter window and was impressive in his short stay at Goodison Park during the latter half of last season.

Roberto Martinez has been keen to tie him up on a permanent deal, but Everton found it hard to agree a fee with Tottenham all summer for Lennon.

However, with just a few hours left in the transfer window, a breakthrough has been reached and the winger is expected to join Everton today.

Lennon is not expected to be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at White Hart Lane going forward, therefore the club are keen to offload him before the transfer window slams shuts.

The England winger has made 364 appearances for Spurs since arriving from Leeds in 2005.

He clocked up 14 appearances during his loan spell at Everton last season.
