Aston Villa have confirmed the acquisition of Joleon Lescott from West Bromwich Albion and have handed the defender a two-year contract.

Lescott spent last season at the Hawthorns following his arrival at the club from Manchester City after five seasons with the Citizens and he will now be plying his trade for the Villans.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has expressed his delight at the latest addition to his squad and feels that the England international will bring a wealth of experience to the table.

“I'm delighted to bring Joleon on board”, the manager was quoted as saying by the Aston Villa website.

Lescott has played in over 250 Premier League games and won the league in the 2011/12 and the 2013/14 season with Manchester City.

Aston Villa endured a difficult league campaign last term and barely managed to maintain their top flight status.

The 33-year-old will be keen to add stability to their defence and help them do better than last season.
