Out-of-favour Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori has joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal.

The centre-half joined the Reds from Sporting Lisbon in 2013, but has so far failed to secure first team football for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Ilori was not believed to be in Rodgers plans for the season and he started the campaign with the Liverpool Under-21 side at Anfield.

Aston Villa contacted the Reds earlier today to discuss a deal for the Portuguese defender and after Liverpool accepted a loan offer from the Villans, Ilori agreed to a switch to the Midlands for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old will boost Tim Sherwood’s options at the back and brings an end to a hectic transfer window for Aston Villa, where they have overseen a squad overhaul. Aston Villa will be able to keep Ilori permanently for a fee of between £6m and £9m.
