Manchester United have completed the signature of young defender Regan Poole from League Two outfit Newport County.

The 17-year-old impressed the Manchester United coaches during a trial period and the club reportedly agreed a fee worth £100,000, which could rise to around £400,000 based on his performances.

Poole passed a mandatory medical earlier today and will link up with Manchester United’s academy side this season before he moves up the ranks based on his showings for Paul McGuinness' side.

The youngster has already represented Wales Under-17s and became the youngest ever player to represent Newport County when he made his first team debut last year.

The League Two side did reject bids for Poole from Championship clubs earlier today, but Newport manager Terry Butcher said that once Manchester United made a move, the player wanted to leave for Old Trafford.

The Newport boss told the club’s official website: "In the past few days a number of clubs have shown an interest in Regan, but as soon as Manchester United came in there was only really going to be one outcome.

"It is every boy's dream to play for Manchester United, and it's a wonderful opportunity for him to progress at such a magnificent club.

“It doesn't matter which country you are in, or where you are in the world, when Manchester United come calling you have to answer."

Poole made 17 first team appearances for the League Two side before moving to Old Trafford.
