Former Manchester United player and coach Phil Neville is confident that Anthony Martial will come good at Old Trafford.

Manchester United made the 19-year-old forward the most expensive teenager in the world when they paid a reported £36m to secure his signature from AS Monaco on deadline day.

And the numbers of the deal could rise based on his performances at Old Trafford in the future and whether he wins the Ballon d'Or.

Many has questioned Louis van Gaal’s rationale in signing an untested youngster such as Martial for such a large sum of money, but Neville feels that deal could prove to be a smart piece of business for Manchester United.

Neville, who is part of Valencia’s coaching set-up, watched the youngster closely during Los Che’s Champions League playoff tie against Monaco last month and feels that Martial is a top player.

The former Manchester United and Everton man also believes the striker has the attributes to succeed in English football.

"Of the two games against us, and video footage I witnessed of him, he is a top, top striker”, the former defender told the BBC.

“He is quick, he is strong and likes to drift out to the left. Every time he got the ball I thought, no, get the ball away from him. He looks so dangerous and so direct.

"He is perfectly suited to the Premier League. I think it is a very good signing.”

The 19-year-old could make his Manchester United debut when they host Liverpool at Old Trafford after the international break.
