Mexico legend Hugo Sanchez has slammed Louis van Gaal for his treatment of countryman Javier Hernandez at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal sold Hernandez to Bayer Leverkusen before the transfer window closed this summer, leaving few people surprised given his reaction towards the striker in the last game he played for the club, in the Champions League against Club Brugge.

Hernandez stepped up to take a penalty against the Belgians, with the tie already won, but slipped and missed with his shot. Van Gaal aimed a 'told you so' glance of anger towards his assistant Ryan Giggs on the Manchester United bench.

Sanchez feels Van Gaal was out of order and has taken aim at him.

He was quoted as saying by Spanish daily Marca: "Van Gaal has made a bad decision and it isn't the only one; he's done it 50,000 times. I was a coach and a coach can't behave like that against his own player.

"I would come out, praise him and tell him I have faith in him, but for him to fire that look at Giggs… He's a wretch."

The 57-year-old, who won over 50 caps for Mexico and scored 29 goals, wants English football to realise that Van Gaal does not treat his players well.

Sanchez added: "Chicharito can have a bad day at the office just like any other player in the world, but Van Gaal is a wretch and I hope this reverberates around England and people realise that he's a bad person because of the way he treats his players. He has to be professional.

"You have to treat players like human beings."

Hernandez will now be plying his trade in the German Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen and with the BayArena outfit in the Champions League, could yet find himself coming face to face with Van Gaal's Manchester United later this season.
