Anthony Martial has insisted that he is ready to handle the pressure of being the new Manchester United number 9.

Manchester United have paid a staggering amount of money to secure the signature of 19-year-old French forward from Monaco on deadline day.

Martial has become the most expensive teenager in the world and has been handed the number 9 shirt at Old Trafford, the squad number that Radamel Falcao held last season.

The youngster is expected to be under pressure to justify his hefty price tag this season, but the forward said that he is ready to carry that burden for Manchester United.

"I don't feel the pressure. I know there is pressure but I'm ready for it”, Martial told MUTV.

A product of Lyon’s youth academy, Martial has been in the spotlight since an early age and Monaco paid a considerable fee to secure the then 17-year-old from Les Gones in 2013.

The forward shone for Leonardo Jardim’s side towards the second half of last season when he became their first choice centre forward and Louis van Gaal has said that Manchester United scouts had been keeping a close eye on him for a while.

The youngster is proud to join Manchester United and said that he is keen to do well at Old Trafford as he has worked his socks off over the last few seasons to earn the big move.

However, the 19-year-old admits that he still needs to fine tune his game but is confident that he will only get better at Manchester United.

"I'm very happy because it's a big club in England", he continued.

"I'm very proud. I'm very happy because I worked hard for this and my family is very happy about it.

"I spoke with the coach, Louis van Gaal, and I know that I need to work very hard. It's not easy to speak about myself but I am a very fast player.

“I hope that everything will go well for me at this club."
