Tottenham Hotspur offered Marseille the chance to sign Emmanuel Adebayor before the transfer window slammed shut in France, it has been claimed.

Spurs were looking to offload the striker before the window slammed shut and according to French daily La Provence, Adebayor was offered to Marseille.

The Ligue 1 side were interested in signing Adebayor, but decided that with so little time to do the deal it would be impossible to thrash out an agreement with the former Arsenal man.

Adebayor was linked with a move to another Premier League club on deadline day in England yesterday.

The striker was linked with moves to Aston Villa and West Ham, but ended up staying put at White Hart Lane.

The 31-year-old will now be bidding to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino's plans at the north London club and following Spurs' failure to sign Saido Berahino from West Brom, may have an opportunity to do so.

Adebayor joined Tottenham, initially on loan, in 2011. He then made the move permanent a year later.
