Celtic have completed the signing of Croatian centre-half Jozo Simunovic from Dinamo Zagreb.

The Scottish champions were in the market for a central defender after it became clear that Virgil van Dijk was on his way to the Premier League with Southampton.

The Bhoys quickly moved in for the Dinamo Zagreb defender and secured a deal to prise the Croatia Under-21 international away from the Stadion Maksimir.

The defender arrived in Scotland to complete the deal and following a successful medical, he signed a five-year contract with the Scottish champions yesterday.

The 21-year-old is delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and said that he can’t wait to link up with his new team-mates at Celtic Park.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Simunovic said: “I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic.

“I know what a huge club I am joining, one of the biggest in Europe, and I know about its history and its great supporters.

“I can’t wait to get started and join up with my new team and begin my career at Celtic.”

The defender joined the Dinamo Zagreb academy in 2006 and progressed through the ranks to become one of the most crucial members of their squad at a young age.

At 21, the defender already made 75 appearances for the Croatian outfit before he packed his bags for Celtic Park.
