David de Gea has been told to sign a new contract with Manchester United as he worries about being frozen out of the side in the run-up to Euro 2016, it has been claimed.

The goalkeeper had set his heart on moving to Real Madrid, but despite Los Blancos agreeing a deal with Manchester United for his services, the move collapsed late on Monday night after the documents relating to his transfer were not submitted, due to the deadline having passed.

De Gea, whose contract at Manchester United expires next summer, has been left marooned at Old Trafford.

The custodian has been eyeing the winter transfer window, but according to Spanish TV programme El Chiringuito, super agent Jorge Mendes has advised De Gea to sign a contract renewal at Old Trafford.
