Liverpool midfielder Jordan Rossiter has saluted Brendan Rodgers for giving youngsters an opportunity to shine at the club.

Rossiter is considered a highly rated prospect at Anfield and the Liverpool boss has given the youngster an opportunity to train with the first team this season.

The 18-year-old midfielder made his Premier League debut in Liverpool’s 0-0 draw against Arsenal last week and was delighted about the 14 minutes he spent on the pitch at the Emirates.

“I’ve had a good pre-season and been working really hard to impress and luckily I managed to get my first Premier League appearance last week”, Rossiter told The FA.com.

The midfielder was an unused substitute in Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to West Ham at Anfield last weekend and the player admits that he has been enjoying his stint with the senior squad.

Rossiter was part of Rodgers’ pre-season squad too and the youngster has lauded the Liverpool boss for providing the youngsters at the club with an opportunity to shine.

He added that it is easier for him to gauge his development as the manager is always willing to give a chance to a youngster if he is doing well.

“The gaffer is great at Liverpool and he is always giving youngsters a chance.

"There were seven or eight of us that went away in pre-season with the first-team.

“You don’t see that as much with some other clubs, but we know if we are doing things right on and off the pitch he is always willing to give us a chance.”

The youngster has made 24 appearances for the Under-21s and made his senior debut last season in a League Cup game against Middlesbrough, which Liverpool won 16-15 on penalties.
