Manchester United winger Ashley Young has backed David de Gea to remain a true professional, despite the unravelling of his desired move to Real Madrid this summer.

De Gea was being eyed by Los Blancos all through the summer and the Spanish giants made an effort on Spanish transfer deadline day to sign the goalkeeper. The deal would have seen Keylor Navas move to Old Trafford and the Red Devils pocket a transfer fee believed to be around £19m.

However, due to documents not being submitted on time the entire deal collapsed and De Gea will be plying his trade at Old Trafford this season.

His Red Devils team-mate, Ashley Young, feels that De Gea is a true professional and the transfer debacle will not hamper his commitment to the team.

"He is a professional player, always has been, always will be", the winger was quoted as saying by the BBC.
