Mesut Ozil has sent a get well soon message to Arsenal team-mate Danny Welbeck after news emerged of the forward undergoing surgery.

Welbeck has been forced to go under the knife with an operation being carried out on his left knee; Arsenal had tried to avoid surgery on an injury sustained in April, but have failed.

As a result the England international is now looking at several months out of action, something which is a blow to Arsene Wenger's already stretched attacking options.

Ozil has wasted no time in taking to social media to wish his team-mate all the best and urge him to stay strong throughout a difficult time.

The Germany international posted a photograph of himself celebrating with Welbeck and wrote: "Stay strong and get well soon, Danny!"
