West Ham co-chairman David Gold believes their new signing Michail Antonio will excite the fans at the Boleyn Ground.

Nottingham Forest were reluctant to lose the winger this summer and had knocked back an offer from the Hammers before they again slapped in a bid on deadline day.

On Tuesday, West Ham managed to reach an agreement with Forest and the 25-year-old signed a four-year contract with Slaven Bilic’s men.

Gold admits that before deadline day the club knew that they needed to bring in a creative winger and is delighted that they were finally able to agree a deal for Antonio.

The 25-year-old was impressive at the City Ground in the Championship and the West Ham co-chairman has backed him to replicate the same form in the Premier League.

Gold feels the West Ham fans are in for a treat if Antonio manages to hit his stride in the English top flight.

In a statement released on the club’s official website, Gold said: “We knew that we need to bring some wide players into the squad and it is fantastic that the club were also able to secure a deal for Nottingham Forest's highly-rated winger Michail Antonio.

“He has pace and power and has an impressive goalscoring record and we hope he can bring those talents into the Premier League this season.

“If he manages to do that, he will be a big addition for the squad.

“We want to excite our fans and have pacy wingers who can make things happen.”

Derby County were also keen on Antonio, but Forest made it clear that they were not prepared to sell the player to a Championship rival.
