West Ham United are hopeful of having Andy Carroll on the bench when they take on Newcastle United after the international break.

Carroll has been plagued with injuries since he joined the Hammers, but he is now training with the first team squad and firmly on the recovery trail.

Hammers co-chairman David Gold has praised the striker's attitude and work ethic and is hopeful he should be on the bench after the international break.

West Ham host Carroll's former club Newcastle at Upton Park on Monday 14th September.

"He is working hard and he is determined", Gold said via Twitter when asked if Carroll will be back for the Newcastle match.

"I am hopeful he will be on the bench", he added.

West Ham stunned Liverpool by winning 3-0 at Anfield last weekend and will be hopeful of building on the result when Steve McClaren's Magpies visit.

The pressure will be on Newcastle to earn a good result against Slaven Bilic's men as they have picked up on two points from their four Premier League games so far.

West Ham by contrast have six, having beaten both Liverpool and Arsenal away from home.
